Christmas is a special time for many of us.
There are the times spent with family and friends. There is the wonderful atmosphere as the days of Christmas draw near. And it is a time to perhaps remember days from a previous country, or our home country, where we have fond memories from this time of year…
Naturally when we consider the reason for the season, we come to the birth of Jesus, which Christians believe is one of the most important events in world history.
Here at All Saints, we are going to celebrate this special part of the year, this important event in a number of services.
You are welcome to attend all and any, whether you consider yourself a regular churchgoer or not, or if you are just visiting Amersfoort and have never been to All Saints, or if you are Dutch, or British or any nationality! As we say at All Saints – all sorts, all ages all backgrounds, all nationalities – all are welcome!
Here are our services… (all of these are in English except where indicated).
All these events are held here at the Nieuwe Erven, our regular Sunday home, (the address is on our main home page, and we advise parking at the nearby Childrens Farm – Stadsboerderij de Vosheuvel – which is 5 minutes walk away).
Christmas Crib Service – Saturday 23rd December – 4.30pm – in Dutch and English. Particularly children focused, but all adults can attend with or without children. A service kept short – around 45 minutes – with children involved in different sections. We’ll sing a mixture of carols and Christmas songs in Dutch and English. A child focused and child engaging way to tell the story of the birth of Jesus. Refreshments served afterwards.
Christmas Eve – Carols and Lessons – at 9.30am. We gather on Christmas Eve morning to hear a number of bible readings which reminds us of the reason why Christ was born, how his birth was promised centuries before that night in Bethlehem, and the events around his birth. Inbetween the readings, we will sing a number of well known traditional carols and Christmas songs. It is a service known as Carols and Lessons, which is common in the Church of England at this time of year. 80 minutes long. A wonderful way to soak in the Christmas story and have a wonderful time of song and praise. Refreshments served afterwards. A supervised creche for under 4s is also provided.
Christmas Eve – Midnight Holy Communion – 11.00pm. We gather at the end of the day in an atmospheric service. As we worship, we consider how, over 2000 years ago, that night of Jesus’ birth approached. And so as midnight comes, we celebrate Holy Communion – remembering the one who was born. Within our worship we hear bible readings reminding us of the events that night and sing carols which draw us again to the stable where the Saviour was born. A service of approximately 75 minutes in length.
Christmas Day – All Age Holy Communion – at 9.30am. All sorts, all backgrounds, all types, all ages, gather to worship and praise the birth of the King of Kings in that village of Bethlehem. A special morning to gather together. There is a supervised creche for under 4s. A service lasting 80 minutes. Refreshments served after our worship. We gather to remember and celebrate the reason for the season!
So whether you are a regular to All Saints or this is your first visit, whether you live in the area, or you are visiting on holiday, whether you know the Church of England or this is something new for you, all and everyone is welcome to join us at any of our services as we celebrate Christmas.
We hope to see you and welcome you.
