What do actresses Jennifer Aniston & Catherine Zeta Jones, retired England international David Beckham, and Archbishop Justin Welby all have in common? There may be a variety of answers but one answer is that they all wear a cross. There is nothing wrong with that of course, many people do wear a cross – as earrings, bracelet, lapel or even a tattoo. But the most common is a little gold or silver cross around someone’s neck. There is nothing wrong with that, but has it ever struck you, that in a way, it is quite surprising thing to do? Surprising because the cross was a form of execution, used by the Persians and then adopted by the Roman Empire.

This symbol is worn, it is used in baptism, it is used often in Christian worship, and many churches are built in the shape of a cross… To answer that, we need to ask – Why did Jesus die?
