Holy Week and Easter 2026

Holy Week and Easter 2026

Holy Week and Easter Services, April 2026.

All these services are in English and held at our home of WvM (Willem van Mechelenstraat 8, 3817 BC).

Wednesday 1st April : 1930-2130.

The events of Holy Week as recorded in the New Testament did not arise out of nowhere or by accident. The Old Testament points forward in many ways to the need for God’s definitive action to deal with the problems a broken relationship with God. In this evening we will explore the ways in which the Old Testament leads us towards the events of Holy Week. Starting with Genesis we trace key developments in God’s plans and mission to redeem and restore relationship with us through Jesus. There will be some Bible teaching and discussion and you will leave with a greater understanding and appreciation for how the Old Testament leads us to the New Testament and Jesus

Maundy Thursday April 2nd ‘Holy Communion’ 8pm—9.15pm

We reflect on those events and words from the night before Jesus died, as he had a meal with his followers… and we remember the hours that followed as he went out to pray knowing his betrayer approached.  This service includes a stripping of the sanctuary area – the area at the front of the worship area – a reminder of how our Lord have everything stripped from him, in the hours before his crucifixion.

Good Friday, April 3rd:

The Way of the Cross: 0900- 1000

A quiet reflective hour using the suggested Anglican prayers and bible verses for this Anglican version of the Stations of the Cross, which is an ancient tradition of considering the last hours of the Lord Jesus’ life. We begin at 0900 – the hour when Jesus first hung on the cross.

The format: I will, in total, read out 15 sections of text. These are scriptural stations describing moments from Gethsemane to burial and resurrection. We remain sitting or kneeling together in church. The format is a short opening prayer, then a scripture – usually 2 or 3 verses relating to the ”station” then there is around 60-90secs silence then a closing prayer; then I move onto the next station of the cross. No movement, no images. It is a quiet, reflective service of prayer.

Good Friday : ‘Reflection’ 8-9.15pm

We hear a number of bible readings exploring the prophecies and passages describing the Lord’s suffering and death and how the New Testament sees Good Friday.

There will be hymns and worship songs, led by a music group, inbetween those bible readings and there is an extended opportunity to pray and to keep silence.

Holy Saturday April, 4th.

The church will be open for prayer from 1000-2200, if you would like to visit to pray, to reflect on Holy Week and to prepare for Easter.

Easter Sunday – April 5th

We celebrate the resurrection!  Two services offered.

0815 Modern Language Holy Communion. 45 minutes max in length. Said book based service; short message, opportunity to receive Communion kneeling.

0930 All Age Holy Communion as we celebrate our Risen Lord! ”He was raised according to the Scriptures” as we read in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 – part of an early creed / hymn used by the first Christians. Died yes, buried, yes, raised, YES!
