Salt and Light (February 5th)

Salt and Light (February 5th)

‘Being Salt and Light’,

Fourth Sunday before Lent, February 5th 2017.

By Anglican Bishop Laurent Mbanda, who is the Diocesan Bishop of Shyira in the country of Rwanda.

Passages: Matthew 5:13-20

And Isaiah 58:1-12

The Rt Reverend Dr Laurent Mbanda shared his testimony and explored particularly Matthew 5:13-16

13 ‘You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.

14 ‘You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

We have only an audio file. The audio part of the Bishop’s talk is a little quiet so do turn your volume up when he speaks.

This audio file begins with the Gospel reading – read by the minister of All Saints. Followed by Bishop Laurent’s sermon. Then there are some closing words from Jurrien Ten Brinke who works with Compassion Netherlands, which is part of Compassion International with whom Bishop Laurent worked 18 years before becoming an Anglican Bishop.
